HOW TO CREATE A COLORING BOOK PATTERN OF YOUR FAVORITE PHOTO USING PHOTOSHOP

Somebody e-mailed me wanting to know how it is to create a pattern that looks a lot like a coloring book using Photoshop. Actually there are lots of different ways to do it. But since I like to mix-up things, this is my favorite way!

Here are the steps:

Duplicate the layer of the photo that you have chosen.

Then go to menu FILTER>OTHER>HIGHPASS. You can set it to 13.9 radius. But I suggest that you choose the setting wherein the photo looks as if the edges have a halo like highlight around it. Experiment guys! So, you’ll know what setting works for you.

Go to menu FILTER>STYLIZE>FIND EDGES. You will notice that your photo looks as if the edges have been colorized by different rainbow colors.
Next step is to change the color to black & white by going to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENT>BLACK & WHITE

Now, I want to sharpen the edges more. I do this by going to FILTER>SHARPEN>UNSHARP MASK. For this project I used 50% amount, 53.7 radius, & 0 threshold. But again, these settings are what worked for my photo. I am suggesting again that you play around with the sliders again to see what works for you. However, I suggest that you keep the threshold to zero (0) and then play around with the amount and radius to make the edges “pop-out”.

Now you’re done! If there are unwanted gray or black marks, just paint them using the brush and the white color!

How to apply Eye Make up using Photoshop

There are many ways to do this, but since this blog is about simple photo editing I would stick to simple ways of doing things to make it easier for our green apples out there.
Step 1: Open the photo that you would like to use. In this tutorial we are going to apply eye make up. So I suggest that you create 1 more blank layer by clicking on the new layers icon. Make sure to rename the new layers so that you don’t get confused. I named my new layer as “eye”.
Step 2: Next, choose the brush and set the hardness to zero to make sure that the color would come out as soft. Also choose the color that you like for the brush.

Step 3: Pick the layer with the label “eye” then start applying make-up on the eyelids. Don’t worry if the whole thing looks like a mess and your model starts looking like a clown. It’s all part of the process. We’re going to arrange it all later.

Step 4: Now, I would like you to go to the layers palette and blending mode for the “eye” layer to soft light.
Step 5: To, give a little bit of definition; you could line the lash line with a darker color of the same shade. But make sure to create another layer for this. Also, make sure to change the blending mode again to soft.

That’s it! Although guys I have to apologize since I am literally not a make-up artist material so my work is kind of sloppy. But I guess the important thing is I showed you the steps. It’s up to you to create a better color combination! Good Luck!

How to Glamorize your photos with these SIMPLE steps

Step 1: Open the photo you would like to glamorize. Make sure to make a copy of the layer, and then choose FILTER>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR. Set the blur play around with the slider until it looks as if it almost ruined.
Step 2: Go to the layers Palette and set the opacity lower until you get the right amount of blur that you like
Step 3: Choose the eraser tool to remove some of the blur in the areas that you would like to maintain the sharpness like the eyes or lips. Make sure to adjust the hardness of the eraser to get the right amount of detail you want to get. The higher the percent of hardness the more sharp the details get.

How to sharpen photos using Photoshop

Sharpening Pictures using Adobe Photoshop
  • Open the picture in Photoshop; Duplicate the background layer by dragging the layer towards the new layer icon.

  • Change the blend mode from Normal to Overlay
  • Go to Filter>Other>High Pass then play around with the slider, until you get the right amount of sharpness that you want.

  • If some parts of the picture looks too grainy (noisy) than you like, double click on the foreground color swatch (encircled in the illustration) to activate the color picker.
  • For the Hue (H), Saturation (S) & Brightness type in the values:
H: 0/ S: 0/ B: 0 (Boxed in the illustration) to get a grey color on the foreground swatch.

  • Next, click on the brush tool then paint over the areas of the picture that is too grainy for you. Save when satisfied.

How to Darken light or Overexposed Photos

  • Duplicate the photo by dragging the background layer towards the new layer icon.

  • Change the Blend mode from Normal to Multiply
  • Repeat the process of copying the layer and changing the blending mode from normal to multiply, until the picture looks too dark.
  • The next step is to change the opacity located on the upper right corner of the layers palette.

  • Right Click on any of the layers in the palette, then choose flatten image which can be found in the bottom of the menu/choices when you're done.

Changing Photo Background Part 2

Changing the Background in Adobe Photoshop PART 2
1. Open the background that you want to place on the picture, go to Select and pick ALL
2. Next, go to Edit>Copy
3. Go to the first picture that you have selected and go to Edit>Paste to place the new background
4. After you have pasted the new background, Move it around to fit the picture. If the new background is too small to fit the picture, Go to Edit>Free transform to adjust the new background on the picture. You do this by dragging on the corners of the free transform “box”. When you’re satisfied, press enter.

5. Right click on the layers, on the layers palette and pick Merge Down

6. Then, Double Click on the merged layer to turn it to Layer 0

7. You are now ready to fix the inconsistencies in the edges or fill in missing parts by using the clone stamp tool.

Changing Photo Background Part 1

Changing the Background in Adobe Photoshop PART 1
There are various ways to change the background in Adobe Photoshop, but this is my favorite way since I can control how refined the edges of the selection becomes.
1. Double click the background layer in the layers palette to turn it to layer 0. Click OK to change it to layer 0.
2. Pick the magnetic lasso tool from the swatch, and trace the person or object in the photo that you like to preserve

3. When you finish selecting the object, right click on the selection (picture) & pick select inverse. This will automatically inverse the selection from the object you picked, to the background that you want to change.

4. The next step is to refine the selection so that the end result will look as legit as possible. Right click on the selection & choose refine edges. Here is what you’ll see:

Radius: To improve the edge in soft transitions or fine details
Contrast: Makes soft edges crisp
Smooth: Removes jagged edges
Feather: Smoothens the selection edge with a soft blur
Contract/Expand: Increase or decrease selection edge

Click the icons below the above items to place a highlight on the selection that you’ve made. That way you can immediately see the changes or a preview of what you are creating.

I want to emphasize the items above. I want you guys to play around with them and try adjusting the sliders to different values so that you can clearly see the effect of manipulating the values on the edges of the selection.

Concentrate on perfecting the selections first, before we go to the Part 2 of this Guide.

Making Editing easy with Photoshop Action Files

Making editing easy in Adobe Photoshop
With ACTION (.ATN) Files

What’s up with Photoshop’s ACTION files?

Action files can be compared to a video recording or a voice record. But instead of recording voice or images, Photoshop records the “actions” that you perform. For example, if you have developed your own system of editing color in Photoshop you can record those actions while performing them. The next time you are going to edit a picture to change its color, all you have to do is play the recording of the actions for color editing and let Photoshop do almost all of the work.

In short it lets you automate your tasks making it easier to perform editing tasks in Photoshop that you usually apply repeatedly. It also includes STOPS that allows you to do the tasks that cannot be recorded or even write instructions for others to follow.

How can ACTION files help me edit pictures or texts in Photoshop?

What’s also great about actions files is that you can download a lot of it from the net. So if you don’t know how to create a certain text effect that you like you can definitely try to search an available action file, download it & open it in Photoshop. Play it in the Actions Palette & you have your instant text effect! It also works for photo effects so just Google the effects you like and I’m pretty sure that somebody out there offers a free download of an action file to suite your editing needs. Even a newbie can create exciting effects using ready made, downloadable ACTION files!
